What is the Municipal Buildings Energy Management Plan?
The Municipal Buildings Energy Management Plan (EMP) establishes a pathway for buildings owned by the City of Lincoln, Lancaster County, and the Public Building Commission (PBC) to become carbon neutral by 2035.
This EMP establishes a pathway to achieve the City’s and County’s goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2035, aligned with the policies and actions steps of the Comprehensive Plan.
This EMP establishes a pathway to achieve Lincoln’s goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2035, aligned with the goals of the City of Lincoln Climate Action Plan (2021-2027).
This EMP analyzes baseline energy use and reviews accessibility features for all major buildings owned and operated by the City of Lincoln, Lancaster County, and the Public Building Commission.
This EMP involves Union members (IBEW Local 265) and students from Southeast Community College to contribute towards building a future energy efficiency workforce.
This EMP develops criteria and policies to evaluate energy efficient investments – like building retrofits on the operational side and the procurement of renewable energy sources or carbon offsets to meet the targets on the supply side. It also develops policies and a system to track and report energy use for municipal buildings.
This EMP furthers the goals embodied in the Climate Action Plan and the Comprehensive Plan to increase energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy in buildings owned and operated by the City of Lincoln, Lancaster County, and the PBC.
Municipal buildings play an important role in achieving the City of Lincoln’s goal to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050. As part of its extensive recommendations, the Climate Action Plan recommends this EMP to increase energy efficiency and renewable energy in municipal operations, targeting 100% carbon neutral by 2035.
Through their Climate Action Plan, the City of Lincoln recognizes the need to significantly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to slow the pace of climate change and protect residents’ way of life. Its major goal is to reduce GHG emissions 80% by 2035. The EMP aims to align with the Climate Action Plan by:
The EMP aims to align with multiple goals and policies in the
