"I have heard from hundreds of residents this week who want to see these protests result in positive change. Many have shared with us eight recommendations rooted in the findings of the Task Force on 21st Century Policing, which has influenced the thinking of cities across the nation. LPD has already incorporated many of these recommendations into their policies," said Gaylor Baird.

The Mayor added, "Our Lincoln police embrace transparency and are proud to hold themselves to the highest standard. I commend the initiative of community leaders working with LPD to ensure that these standards are the lived experience for each of us."

"As a next step, we will be reviewing our use-of-force policies. We must ensure that these policies are in line with our number one priority as a city, which is to keep everyone in our community safe."

Gaylor Baird outlined several additional steps the City will take in the coming weeks, including:

Gaylor Baird promised to update the community with further steps, saying, "We are committed to coming back to you by the end of June with more concrete steps demonstrating the City's responsiveness to our community's desire to walk together towards equity, kindness, civility, and justice."
