Nature Center Invites Public to Fall Events

Pioneers Park Nature Center invites the public to a variety of outdoor events this fall. The following activities are planned:

Composting Workshop - Saturday, October 21, 10 to 11 a.m. The free workshop is sponsored by Nebraska Extension in Lancaster County and the City Recycling Office. Extension Master Gardeners will demonstrate how to manage three kinds of composting bins. The workshop will take place at the composting demonstration area across the road from the Prairie Building.

Saturday with our Naturalist: Autumn at the Nature Center - October 21, 2 to 3 p.m. Join Nature Center Naturalist Jamie Kelley for a guided hike. Plan to be outdoors for the entire hour-long event. The fee is $5 per person. Register by October 18 by calling 402-441-7895.

Almost Full Moon Guided Hike - Friday, November 3, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Enjoy the nighttime sights and sounds at the center under a nearly-full moon. This program is open to all, but it may not be suitable for young children. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The fee is $8 per person. Register by November 1 by calling 402-441-7895.

Prairie Run - Saturday, November 4, race starts at 9 a.m. Help support the care and management of the tallgrass prairie at the center by participating in the fifth annual Prairie Run. Both the one-mile and 5K routes feature hills and challenging terrain. All runners will receive a participation gift. The fee is $10 for ages 12 and under and $20 for ages 13 and up.
