Nominations Now Accepted for Second Annual Luminary Award

Mayor Chris Beutler is seeking nominations for the second annual Lincoln Luminary Award, which is presented to an individual who has made a positive impact on the community and demonstrated Lincoln's values. Nominations will be accepted through October 31, and the Luminary Award will be presented at the Winter Lights celebration Friday, December 1 at Tower Square at 13th and "P" streets.

Leadership Lincoln will again facilitate the annual award process. More information and a nomination form are available at or by calling 402-441-4661.

Mayor Beutler created the award to recognize a person who displays consistent and intentional action; who inspires others; who goes above and beyond in making an impact on the community; and who demonstrates the values of Lincoln. The specific values are listed in the displays on the trail bridge north of Pinnacle Bank Arena. They include caring, equality, mentoring and service.

"The main reason Lincoln is a great place to live, work and enjoy life is the people who call this home," said Beutler. "The Lincoln Luminary Award recognizes those who provide shining examples of our community spirit. Many times, they are the unsung heroes who may not be recognized without this award."

The 2016 award was presented to Randy Hawthorne, Executive Director of the Nonprofit Hub. Hawthorne is active in the Downtown Rotary Club and the local theater community and is a faculty member at the UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications.
