City and LHA Seek Input on Fair Housing

The City Urban Development Department invites the public to complete a short online survey about their experiences buying, renting or financing a home in Lancaster and Seward Counties. The survey is available at (keyword: AFH) through July 31. The survey will assist the City and Lincoln Housing Authority (LHA) in addressing fair housing issues in the community.

The survey is an opportunity for the public to anonymously provide feedback on housing discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability or family status. The survey will also ask about the availability of neighborhood services such as grocery stores, parks and libraries.

The City and LHA both receive grant funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). That agency now requires grantees to "affirmatively further fair housing," and the survey is part of that effort. If fair housing issues are identified, the City and LHA have a legal duty to take action to promote housing choice and access to opportunity for residents of all backgrounds.

Those who feel they have experienced housing discrimination should contact the Lincoln Commission on Human Rights at 402-441-7624 to file a complaint. More information about is available at
