LPD Investigating Possible "Spoofing" of City Phone Number

LPD advises public to avoid sharing personal information over the phone

The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) is investigating several citizen reports where it appears a Mayor's Office phone number was "spoofed." This involves using electronic means to misrepresent caller identification. The citizens have received unsolicited phone calls from what appears to be a Mayor's office phone number. In spoofing cases, the caller attempts to gather personal information that is then used to defraud the person.

The Mayor's Office will never solicit personal information from the public over the phone. LPD reminds residents:

Residents who suffer a monetary loss from a suspicious telephone transaction should call LPD at 402-441-6000. If there is no monetary loss, report the suspicious call to the Attorney General's Office at
