Public Invited to Open House on Deadmans Run Study

The public is invited to an open house Tuesday, January 17 on a study to reduce the flooding risk in the Deadmans Run floodplain in northeast Lincoln. The meeting is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Nebraska Educational Telecommunications (NET) Center, 1800 N. 33rd Street. A brief formal presentation is planned for 7 p.m.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is conducting the flood risk management feasibility study. The purpose of the meeting is to give area residents, businesses and other interested parties an update on the study. The Corps will review the alternatives considered and the preferred alternative that is eligible for further evaluation. Representatives of the City and the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District will also be available to discuss the project and answer questions.

The Corps is expected to finish the study this summer, and if funding is available, design could begin as early as 2018, with possible construction in 2020.
