Students Paint Eleven More City Snow Plows

Eleven more City snow plows are sporting blades painted by local students in the third year of the Artistic Snow Plow project. Ten plows were painted last year, and nine were painted the first year of the project, a collaboration of the City Public Works and Utilities (PWU) Department and Lincoln Public Schools. The students are asked to create murals based on the theme of community and school spirit.

Clayton Engelman, a PWU Street Maintenance employee who coordinated this year's program, said the 30 painted plows are assigned to the participating schools' snow routes so students and teachers can see their plows in action. This year's participating schools are the Arts and Humanities Focus School; Culler and Schoo Middle Schools; and eight elementary schools - Zeman, Lakeview, Prescott, Norwood Park, Huntington, Randolph, Hill and Kooser. See the plows here.

The program was initiated in 2012 by Roger Tiedeman, a District Manager in the Street and Traffic Operations Division, who has since retired. He modeled the program after a similar one in Wisconsin.

Engelman said one of the program's goal is to have all City plows painted. The primer, paints and sealer were provided by Sherwin Williams.
