One Book - One Lincoln Event to Focus on Lighthouses

The public is invited to a free One Book - One Lincoln event Sunday, October 12 to discuss the role the lighthouse plays in this year's selected novel "The Light Between Oceans" by M.L. Stedman. The event at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 12 is hosted by Lincoln City Libraries, will take place at 2 p.m. in the fourth-floor auditorium at Bennett Martin Public Library, 136 S. 14th St.

Molly Fisher, a member of the Nebraska Library Commission, will lead the discussion. She and her husband have spent over 20 summers living and working in lighthouses along the west coast. Those attending will also have the opportunity to sample Aussie meat pies, a staple at many Australian lighthouses.

"The Light Between Oceans" is Stedman's first novel. The book is set in Australia and tells the story of Tom Sherbourne who welcomes a new job as a lighthouse keeper after the horror of World War I. He and his wife Isabel are the only residents of Janus Rock, an isolated island off the coast of Australia.

The novel is available at all Lincoln libraries in print (including large type), audio recording and as a Book Club in a Bag. For more information on One Book - One Lincoln events, visit
