Library Video Targets New Users in Six Languages

Lincoln City Libraries (LCL) has produced new videos in six languages as part of the American Library Association's "The American Dream Starts @ your library" program. The videos introduce new users to the library in English, Arabic, Karen, Russian, Spanish and Vietnamese.

LCL Director Pat Leach said the concept of a free public library is new to many immigrants. She said the videos will help LCL increase its reach to non-English speakers by explaining how to use the public library.

"Lincoln City Libraries has always been a resource for new members of the community, whether they have relocated from another city, state or country," Leach said. "The public library offers information, online access to resources, literacy resources and programs for all ages."

The videos were produced by 5 CITY-TV, and DVDs are available at all libraries. They also can be viewed online at and at

Funding for the program is provided by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.
