Parks and Recreation Receives Autism Grant for Camp Scholarships

The Autism Speaks Baker Summer Camp Program has awarded a $3,500 grant to the Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department. The grant will enable the department to offer scholarships for its Adaptive Recreation Camps, which include SumFun Day Camp, Art Camp and Drama Camp.

To be eligible, campers must have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder and be financially disadvantaged. Campers will have the opportunity for individual growth and development, and the scholarship funds will be split among all those who meet the qualifications.

Families must complete a need-based scholarship form and be found eligible for grant assistance by May 20. A camper's family must also agree to submit an evaluation, which may include photos of the camper participating in the activities.

For more information about the camps and the scholarships, contact Kerry Zingg at 402-441-7877 or Mary Johnson at 402-441-7948.
