Winners Announced in City, LPS Employee Art Contest

Work to be on display at Lincoln libraries

Cash and scholarship awards will be presented Friday, April 4 to the winners of the National Arts Program (NAP) contest for employees of the City of Lincoln, the Lincoln Public Schools (LPS) and their families. The artists will be recognized in a ceremony at 6 p.m. at the Bennett Martin Public Library, 136 S. 14th Street. The 63 participants entered 100 pieces of art. No City or LPS funds were used for the contest or exhibit, and the program had no entry fee.

This is the eighth year the City has participated in the NAP, which was established in 1982 and sponsors 82 annual art contests and exhibitions in 38 states. The local contest is coordinated by AmeriCorps staff at the Lincoln Arts Council.

All artwork entered is on exhibit through April 4 through 30 at Bennett Martin Public Library and these three libraries:

The winner of the "Best in Show" award of $300 is "Fairy Tale Castle" by Charon Becker, the wife of Zachary Becker, Public Works and Utilities Department. Two youth artists also won scholarships for classes at the LUX Center for the Arts.

Judges for the contest were Susan Stark-Johnson, Shelley Stoltenberg and Richard Terrell.
