The Lincoln Emergency Communications/911Center has been selected as a “Flagship Agency” by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). The Center will be recognized at CALEA’s conference in December in Tulsa.

“A Flagship Agency represents an extraordinary example of excellence in public safety and is recognized as a potential resource for future and current CALEA clients,” wrote Sylvester Daughtry, Jr., CALEA Executive Director, in his letter of congratulations.

“This is well-deserved recognition for the excellent leadership and dedicated staff of our 911 Center,” said Mayor Chris Beutler. “I am pleased that, working with our City Council, we were able to add three emergency service dispatchers in this year’s budget. It is crucial that we continue to provide the resources the Center needs to keep our community safe.”

In 2002, Lincoln’s 911 Center became the 14th center in the nation to be accredited by CALEA. Accreditation is for a three-year period. The Center was re-accredited in 2005 and was named a Flagship Agency at that time as well.

The Center is now seeking accreditation for the next three-year period. A team of assessors was in Lincoln April 26 through 30 to examine all aspects of the Center’s policies, procedures, management and operations and take public comments. The Center will have an accreditation hearing at the December CALEA conference, and will be notified of its status at that time.
