Date: February 12, 2020
For More Information: Terry T. Wagner, twagner@lancaster.ne.gov

On Monday, February 10, 2020, deputies were detailed to a residential burglary in the area of N. 40th and Bluff road. The investigation revealed the burglary had occurred between 11:07 and 11:48 A.M. and approximately $9,000 worth of jewelry, medication, electronics tools, and a firearm in a safe had been stolen. Home surveillance video provided a good description of the suspect vehicle. One of the deputies checked the local daily 'hotsheet' and learned a vehicle that matched the description of our burglary vehicle was wanted for a domestic assault that occurred in Lincoln. The broadcast for the domestic assault provided the registered owners name, and surveillance was conducted on the place he was staying and where the vehicle was located. On February 11, 2020, sufficient information was gathered to get a search warrant for the motel room the suspect was staying in. Upon serving the warrant, many of the stolen belongings from the burglary and 2.3 grams of methamphetamine were located and the suspect, 38 year old Michael S. Bennett, was arrested. In Bennett's vehicle 24 'M' series fireworks were located. Of the items not recovered was a Colt Model 1911 .45 Caliber pistol. The fireworks were turned over to a Lincoln Fire Inspector.

Bennett was lodged in the Lancaster County Jail for Burglary, Possession of Methamphetamine with intent to deliver, possession of an explosive device.
