LSO Arrests Two Following Investigation into Mushroom Products Sold at Smoke Shops
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two individuals following an investigation into synthetic mushroom products being sold at local smoke shops. Both individuals were arrested on charges related to possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
The investigation began in May of 2025 after deputies responded to an overdose involving a minor who had consumed mushroom gummies purchased from a local smoke shop. The incident raised concerns about products being marketed and sold as legal substances while potentially containing dangerous or controlled ingredients.
The investigation focused on synthetic mushroom products believed to contain controlled substances. As part of those efforts, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office issued cease-and-desist letters in November of 2025 to multiple smoke shops in Lancaster County selling the products.
In January of 2026, investigators purchased additional products from Cloud 9 Smoke Shop, located at 821 S. 11th St. in Lincoln, Neb. The items were submitted for laboratory testing and, despite previous warnings, tested positive for acetylpsilocin, a Schedule I controlled substance.
On June 8, 2026, members of the Metro Area Fugitive Task Force, including individuals from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshals Service, Lincoln Police Department and the Nebraska State Patrol, located and arrested Mirzah Meskin, 44, and Khalil Meskin, 38, both employees of Cloud 9 Smoke Shop who were involved in the sale of the products. Both were arrested for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
The removal of these items from local smoke shops helps reduce access to dangerous drugs and sends a clear message that those who choose to distribute illegal substances will be held accountable.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office encourages parents and caregivers to remain engaged in conversations about substance use and the dangers of products that may be marketed toward young people. This investigation is part of the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office’s continued efforts to identify and disrupt the distribution of illegal and potentially dangerous substances within the community.
