LANCASTER COUNTY, Neb. – The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred Saturday, May 2, shortly before 8:00 p.m., near the NW 48th Street and Interstate 80 interchange.
The rider who died has been identified as 59-year-old Jeffery McDonald of Lincoln.
Based on the preliminary investigation, a Nebraska State Trooper attempted to stop a motorcycle for speeding westbound on I-80. The motorcycle did not stop and instead accelerated. The rider then failed to navigate the off-ramp and crashed.
Life-saving efforts were attempted, and the rider was later pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin has been notified. There were no other individuals injured.
The Nebraska State Patrol has requested the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office handle the investigation, and the LSO Crash Reconstruction Team is conducting its investigation. Speed is suspected to be a factor. Whether alcohol or drugs were involved is still being determined. An autopsy has been ordered, and the findings will be turned over to the Lancaster County Attorney.
We would like to thank the Nebraska State Patrol, Lincoln Police Department and Lincoln Fire & Rescue for their assistance at the scene.
