We have received reports of callers identifying themselves as Deputy William Jarrett of the Lancaster County Sheriff's Department and that the person receiving the call missed court and a warrant has been issued for their arrest, but the caller can get the warrant dismissed for a certain amount of money. People are warned the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office will not demand money over the phone to dismiss a warrant. Most people who remember Chief Deputy Sheriff William Jarrett know he retired 12 years ago is not calling people to get their warrants dismissed. This is a typical scam where criminals search the web sites of government agencies and use the names of their administrators to extort money by intimidating the person with threats of arrest.
Anyone who receives this type of call should not give any personal information to the caller, especially credit card information or money card information and should call the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office at 402 441-6500.
