The ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.’ crackdown is a nationwide effort to reduce the number of impaired drivers on the public roads. The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office participated in the crackdown by conducting saturation patrol on various nights of the week from December 15, 2023 through December 31, 2023. Additional deputies were on duty to run traffic on an individual basis. Their efforts were concentrated on the detection of alcohol impaired drivers and other alcohol related violations.
The deputies involved in the saturation patrol contacted 151 vehicles, issued 84 official citations, issued 155 warning/defect cards, made 3 criminal arrests, and arrested 6 people on outstanding arrest warrants.
Official citations included 51 speeding, 4 driving during suspension, 2 driving while intoxicated, 14 registration and insurance violations, 1 seatbelt violation, 3 fictitious license plate violations, 1 flee to avoid arrest, and 8 various traffic law violations.
Criminal arrests included 2 for possession of marijuana less than 1 ounce and 1 for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Overtime compensation for the additional deputies working during the crackdown was paid through a mini grant funded by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office
