The ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.’ crackdown is a nationwide effort to reduce the number of impaired drivers on the public roads.  The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office participated in the crackdown by conducting saturation patrol from Thursday, August 31, 2023, through Sunday, September 03, 2023.  There were additional deputies on duty to run traffic on an individual basis. Their efforts were concentrated on the detection of alcohol impaired drivers and other alcohol related violations.

The deputies involved in the saturation patrol contacted 90 vehicles, issued 48 official citations, issued 71 warning/defect cards, made 6 criminal arrests, and arrested 2 people for having an outstanding warrant.

Official citations included 27 speeding, 5 driving during suspension, 4 driving while intoxicated, 7 registration and insurance violations, and 5 various traffic law violations.

The criminal arrests included 1 for possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver, 2 for possession of marijuana less than 1 ounce, and 3 for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Overtime compensation for the additional deputies working during the crackdown was paid through a mini grant funded by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
