The ‘Click It or Ticket’ mobilization is a nationally organized campaign to increase awareness and usage of seatbelts and child restraint systems.  On Wednesday May 24, 2023 the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from MADD, participated in the mobilization efforts by conducting a high visibility checkpoint and participating in saturation patrol.

On May 24, 2023 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office conducted a high visibility safety checkpoint on Highway 6 just west of 98th Street.  11 deputies checked  308 vehicles for safety equipment violations and apparent traffic law violations. 

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office continued the enforcement efforts on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights through June 04, 2023.  Additional deputies were utilized for saturation patrol to enforce traffic law violations throughout Lancaster County and contacted an additional 237 vehicles during afternoon and evening hours.  

During the high visibility checkpoint and the saturation patrol a combined total of 545 vehicles were contacted which resulted in 12 people getting arrested on outstanding warrants.  In addition to the outstanding warrants, deputies made 19 criminal arrests, wrote 178 official traffic citations and issued 197 warning/defect cards.  Official citations were issued for the following offenses: 3 driving under the influence, 21 driving during suspension, 9 seatbelt violations, 75 speeding violations, 1 stop sign violation, 44 registration and insurance violations, 8 people driving without a valid operator’s license, 7 open alcohol containers, 4 fictitious plated vehicles,  and 6 various traffic law violations.

Criminal arrests included 1 possession of a controlled substance, 1 possession of a firearm while in violation of a drug violation, 4 possession of marijuana less than 1oz, 4 possession of drug paraphernalia, 2 minor in possession of alcohol, 1 procuring alcohol to a minor, 1 carrying and concealed weapon, 2 violations for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence with children under the age of 16, 2 child abuse violations, and a sex offender registry violation.   

Overtime for the additional deputies working during the mobilization will be paid through a mini-grant funded by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
